Jonathan Metzl

Jonathan Michel Metzl (born December 12, 1964) is an American psychiatrist and author. He is the Frederick B. Rentschler II Professor of Sociology and Psychiatry at Vanderbilt University, where he is also Director of the Center for Medicine, Health, and Society. Metzel is an expert on gun violence and mental illness, which is the subject of his latest book, ''What We've Become, Living and Dying in a Country of Arms''. He is the author of several other books, including ''The Protest Psychosis'', ''Prozac on the Couch'', ''Against Health: How Health Became the New Morality'', and ''Dying of Whiteness''.
