Description
Summary:Broadheath Primary School in Altrincham, Manchester, is Trafford's first full-service extended school, gaining its status in April 2004. Headteacher Jan Shaughnessy has employed two dedicated full time staff: Nicola Body, the extended schools manager and Vicki Cropper, the childcare coordinator. Between them they are developing a wide range of services to meet the needs of pupils, parents and the wider community. They identify areas where provision needs to be made through ongoing consultation with adults, children and local businesses. One of the most interesting schemes to come out of this is SHARE, a family learning programme in which parents themselves learn what their child will be learning the following week and then work with their child both supervised in school and at home. It's a scheme which is proving very popular.
