We begin our Canberra tour in a unique way - by hot air balloon - where we get a panoramic aerial view of the city. We then take a more traditional tour of the Australian War Memorial Center, a shrine and museum to honor Australia's war dead. Venturing out of the city, we visit a working sheep ranch and a wildlife preserve to see such animals as kangaroos, wallabies, dingoes, koalas, emus, and cockatoos. We also visit Thredbo Village, an authentic alpine ski resort in Kosciuszko National Park, before heading to Sydney and its historic center, The Rocks, a 19th century village. We climb the Sydney Tower to get a breathtaking bird's eye view of the city, the Harbor Bridge and the Sydney Opera House, as well as the mountains and beaches beyond the city. Cadman's Cottage, the oldest residence in The Rocks and a Heritage site, is now the Visitor Center for this historic area, and Hyde Park, an open area southeast of the city first used for sports, is now a public garden. A major entertainment center is Darling Harbor, with its many restaurants, cafes, theaters, and attractions. We also see the Bondi, a surfing beach and suburb of Sydney. Our last stop is Tyrrell's Winery, a family-owned estate since 1858 where world-renowned wines are produced, and we enjoy a wine tasting as a lovely way to celebrate our tour of this fantastic country. | ||
