Many patients who initially respond to targeted therapies ultimately develop progressive disease due to acquired resistance to these agents. Additionally, some patients do not respond at all to any of the currently approved targeted agents, underscoring the need for continued and concerted efforts to identify other relevant targets and pursue alternative therapeutic strategies.
